French Gerleman Spreads Holiday Cheer

In a blink of an eye, here we are at the end of December. At French Gerleman, we wanted to spread some extra cheer this holiday season. Our St. Louis and Columbia branches stepped up this year to help us adopt two families and donate money to a veteran’s organization. Keep reading to learn more about these programs.

FG-Building-Header

St. Louis

Since June, our employees have had the opportunity to participate in scheduled casual day by donating a minimum of $1 per day. The money raised from our casual days went towards our Adopt a Family for the holidays. We raised enough money to adopt two families this holiday season!

We worked with Epworth Children and Family Services – Holiday Wish Granting Program to adopt the two families.  For 150 years, Epworth Children and Family Services has provided the St. Louis community with essential youth development services that have helped thousands of children overcome severe emotional and behavioral challenges caused by abuse or neglect.

On behalf of the families, we just want to thank everyone for the donations, a little bit does go a long way! Without the support of our amazing team members, we would not have been able to provide these deserving families these amazing holiday gifts.

Columbia

Our French Gerleman –Columbia Branch donated the proceeds from their scheduled casual days to Welcome Home, Inc.

Welcome Home, Inc. is based in Columbia, MO and serves the homeless veterans in our area.  There is a project to build 20 or so one bedroom apartments at the east end of the business loop in coordination with the VA and the Housing Authority.  In this same area, Welcome Home, Inc. is collecting money to build a shelter for homeless veterans, both male and female, that will be able to shelter the children and spouses of homeless veterans as well.  Currently, the Welcome Home, Inc. Veteran’s homeless shelter is on Rangeline Road.  Due to space and monetary restrictions, the shelter on Rangeline Road has been turning away women, families and, in the last year, over 100 male homeless veterans.

We are thankful to be in a position to make a donation that will benefit our homeless veterans and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Control Panel Space Optimization

On every manufacturing floor, space is at a premium.  Machine designers and builders are continually challenged to reduce the size and footprint of machines to save space. This, in turn, challenges the controls engineer to design and build control panels with smaller footprints or fit more into existing panels, which is a very difficult task.

Panduit logo

Panduit can help optimize valuable enclosure space while solving noise, environmental and security challenges. You can reduce space as much as 40% with Panduit while including physical barriers to help with noise mitigation and maintaining proper grounding and visual warnings to enhance personnel safety.

Panduit space saving

Panduit produced a white paper titled “Space Optimization for Control Panels” that does a great job detailing the importance of control panel space and how to design your control panel to save space and maintain regulatory compliance. This insight can help you to achieve the design flexibility and compliance while taking the weight off your shoulders. You can access the white paper HERE.

Interested in learning more about Panduit or control panel space requirements? Give your French Gerleman Account Manager a call or contact us.

Winter Storm Preparedness

In the Midwest, when we hear winter storm we panic. We head to the grocery store for bread, milk and eggs, and storm the hardware stores for ice melt and snow shovels. But how should you prepare your business for winter weather? In this blog we will take a look at ways we can help you prepare for a storm, or help you rebuild in case of a disaster.

PIP

High Visibility Clothing and Protective Gear
In a recent blog, we discussed protecting yourself from cold stress with cold weather gear including hats, gloves and vests. But are you and your employees prepared with high visibility equipment? If you’re going to be out in the field during a snow or ice storm, it’s important that you’re not only protected from the cold, but also very visible.

With the cold weather upon us, it’s also a great time to take a look at your steel toed boots and make sure that they are still in good condition. If there is steel exposed, it’s time to pick up a new pair.

flashlight

Flashlights/Batteries
Don’t be caught in the dark during a power outage! We have a wide range of flashlights and batteries to keep you prepared. With new LED technology, the lights last longer and are brighter. However, you need to maintain the flashlights and make sure the batteries have not leaked or become corroded.

Surge Protection
When you think of a power surge, the immediate first thought is to protect traditional electronic equipment. For residential, it’s important to not only use a surge protector for your television, computers, etc., but also for your fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, etc. Many consumers are not aware that today’s appliances are packed with sophisticated electronic components so be sure to use a surge protector!

Surges can be detrimental to your business operations, too, if your facility’s sensitive electronic equipment is not properly protected. Let us help you identify the proper surge protective devices and power conditioning solutions to provide clean, uninterrupted power to your facility.

first aid

First Aid Kits
We take safety to another level with our vendor managing first aid kits. Are your kits up to date and serviced? If not, we can take care of that!

Blown Fuses
In case of blown fuses, be sure to have a good inventory of critical spares for power fuses on hand to reduce the impact of unexpected downtime.

Service Entrance
If a limb falls on a power line or an ice storm pulls down the line, we can provide the hardware to help your electrical contractor rebuild the service entrance and power requirements for both residential and commercial.

Emergency Service
You can’t always be 100% prepared for a storm or winter weather disaster. We are here for you 24/7, 365 days a year. Whether you need an emergency part or have a question, we are available to help. Rely on our large, local inventory!

To learn more about winter weather preparedness or to place an order, contact your French Gerleman Account Manager or contact us.
